Alison Baker has a passion for music from around the world.  Upon receiving her Master’s degree, she spent a year in Tokyo, Japan collaborating with pianist Shiori Abe, studying Nagauta Music (the traditional music of Kabuki theatre) with Makoto Nishimura, and teaching flute lessons. In 2017 she received a grant from the city of Austin’s Cultural Arts Division to spearhead a project combining classical music with the music from remote parts of South America.

Ms. Baker has been a member of the Edgewood Chamber Orchestra, Capitol City Band, Latin American ensemble Cuicani, Charanga Si, and wind quartet Passeri.   With these ensembles, she has performed in the United States, Spain, and Japan as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. Highlights include performances in Madrid’s Teatro Real, and featured performances at the National Flute Association Annual Convention.  

As a clinician, she has given workshops on the roots of Latin American music to elementary through college-aged students, was a performer and clinician at University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Flute and Clarinet Festival, and has given clinics focusing on ensemble playing among the upper woodwinds at Texas A&M - Commerce, and Texas Lutheran University.  One of Ms. Baker’s real joys is teaching. A sought after flute teacher, her students regularly participate in the Texas State Honor bands and orchestra, have won national level competitions, and have gone on to study at top universities and conservatories in North America.

Alison Baker holds a Master of Music degree from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, both in flute performance.  Her teachers include Eva Amsler (Florida State University), Stephanie Jutt (University of Wisconsin - Madison), Thomas Robertello (Indiana University), Rebecca Gilbert (Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra), and Sophia Gibbs-Kim and Mary Krusenstjerna (Eastman School of Music - Preparatory).  

In addition to music, Ms. Baker has a love of visual arts, is an amateur potter, and can be found hiking, or swimming in one of Austin Texas’s many swimming holes in her free time.
